Top Knobs helps blend simplicity and sophistication in a French countryside inspired South Carolina kitchen featured in Better Homes and Gardens Beautiful Kitchens & Baths.

Brass Top Knobs hardware in French Countryside KitchenIn Charleston, Elizabeth and Mark Barnette sought after a simple and nostalgic design for their open concept kitchen. As a result, the couple opted for subtle white walls, cabinets and appliances to mimic a low country style.

One most noteworthy element is the brass accents included throughout the kitchen to lend the design a personal touch. Top Knobs Cup Pulls from the Somerset Collection and Somerset Weston Appliance Pulls in Polished Brass Finish were selected and act as the perfect statement against the white cabinetry.

For Elizabeth, storage and organization in the kitchen was a key component in the renovation. “I like having everything in its place,” says Elizabeth. “Like dedicated shelves for baking racks and trays.”

02-multitaskerThe Kemp family worked alongside designer Terry Scarborough of Deane Inc., and contractor Chris Kuehn of Longridge Builders to enlarge the kitchen and create an open, free-flowing space. Flat-panel cabinets, sleek pulls and neutral colors kept the feel of the space both fun and semi-formal.

“We cook a lot for ourselves and entertain fairly regularly, and we wanted stuff within reach,” says Schumpert. “We wanted to be able to minimize clutter and didn’t want to bump into each other all the time when cooking.” He and Pelliccia wanted to be able to prepare dinner while having their daughter, Lola, 9, sitting nearby doing homework.

WashingtonPost Project TK

Interior designer Carmel Greer of District Design removed the interior walls on the main floor and expanding the kitchen to the full width of the house, placing the living area in front and the dining area in back. The kitchen is now the centerpiece of this house, and light floods in from both directions.
