Refresh Your Kitchen with Top Knobs Guide to Cabinet Colors

Kitchen cabinets are no longer a space reserved just for storage. They have become the focal point of the kitchen, an essential element for expressing personal style. And 2019 was all about updating cabinets with a splash of color

Whether you’re remodeling or drawing inspiration for your new build, Top Knobs has put together a list of five on-trend cabinet colors and complementary hardware finishes you’ll want to incorporate into your kitchen design.

White
Neutral, clean, and timeless, white will never go out of style. Opting for white cabinets is an easy choice if you want to brighten up your kitchen. If you’re worried about your space getting washed out, dress up your cabinets with rich tones. Achieve that modern farmhouse look with antique copper hardware.

Gray
Not ready to take the color plunge? Gray is the way to go. It is a great way to introduce color and contrast into the kitchen without going over the top. Pair it with flat black hardware for a classic look that is also transitional.

Black
Black cabinets will give your kitchen a sleek and contemporary feel. Be careful not to drown your space in darkness. Polished chrome pulls will break up the monochromatic look but maintain the modern design scheme.

Mixed Finishes Add Unique Style to a Modern Lake House Kitchen

When the owners of a single-family lake house in Wrentham, Massachusetts decided to remodel their home, the couple wanted something they had never seen before. With the help of Top Knobs cabinet hardware, Amy Kearns of Amy-Lynn Interiors gave them just that.

“The clients, they were a complete joy to work with. Their love for textures, patterns and their new lake views were clearly stated in every centimeter of this space.” Amy told us. Her modern take on lake house chic, with blue cabinets, Top Knobs pulls and beautiful wood floors gave this space the unique look her clients wanted.

Near the completion of the design when hardware options were being considered, Amy and her clients had originally selected a different Top Knobs collection. However, after her office got a sample of the new Hollin back plate and Kinney pull from the Lynwood collection, they quickly changed their minds.

“We texted an image of it to the client and said ‘do you love this as much as we do? Black on island and brushed on blue?’ And immediately she called us and said she and her husband agreed,” Amy says of the hardware change.

In the end, Amy used the Top Knobs Kinney pull and Hollin back plate in brushed nickel and black to complete the space. “Mixing metals makes our heart skip a beat! Ironically enough, we ordered one extra black pull and the client fell in love with the idea of using that to mark her rubbish. She thought it was a clever way of telling guest where to find it.”

The mix of Top Knobs back plates and pulls in mixed finishes created a great opportunity to do something unique, yet on trend, to bring the clients’ personal style into the kitchen.

“We really like what Top Knobs is about, they’ve got something for anyone who has a sense of style. It’s up to us as the designer to take the style and bring it to life, and the hardware plays a huge role in that. We always say this is the jewelry for the room.”

Ten Years of Dakota

Since its introduction in 2007 the Top Knobs Dakota collection has been a go-to choice for kitchen and bath designers for rustic yet contemporary decorative hardware. The collection has expanded since its launch and now includes 21 different knob, pull and cup pulls in a combination of 11 finishes.  With so many choices, which piece will you select to reflect your personal style?

Available at kitchen and bath showrooms nationwide, each piece in the Top Knobs Dakota Collection includes a proprietary sealed finish and Top Knobs lifetime warranty. Here we highlight the three main pieces in the collection: the Charlotte Pull, the Bergen Knob and the Dakota Cup Pull.

The Charlotte Pull

There’s a reason the Charlotte Pull has been a Top Knobs best seller for years. This gentle cabinet pull features a smooth handle and subtly flairs out in a circle shape at the base.  This thin, delicate style matches nearly any decor.

It is offered in three sizes, 3”, 4” and 6” center-to-center dimensions, with a coordinating 2 9/16” cup pull.

The Dakota Collection Charlotte Pull is available in seven finishes: Brushed Satin Nickel (BSN), Oil Rubbed Bronze (ORB), Patina Rouge (PAR), Polished Chrome (PC), Polished Nickel (PN), Pewter Antique (PTA), and Tuscan Bronze (TB).

The Bergen Knob

A style chameleon, the flat topped 1 ¼” Bergen Knob finds a home in any kitchen or bath. Depending on the finish selected, the knob adds either a contemporary or a traditional accent wherever it is installed. This style is one of Top Knobs Product Manager Christine Zimmer’s favorite pieces because of its versatility.

The Dakota Collection Bergen Knob is available in nine finishes: Brushed Bronze (BB), Flat Black (BLK), Brushed Satin Nickel (BSN), Oil Rubbed Bronze (ORB), Patina Rouge (PAR), Polished Chrome (PC), Polished Nickel (PN), Pewter Antique (PTA), and Tuscan Bronze (TB).

The Dakota Cup Pull

This 2 9/16″ cup pull adds a punch of style. The Dakota Cup Pull is the perfect shape and size for hands to grab and open drawers. The oval shaped cup pull includes faux screw marks for a touch of authenticity.

The Dakota Cup Pull is available in seven finishes: Brushed Satin Nickel (BSN), Oil Rubbed Bronze (ORB), Patina Rouge (PAR), Polished Chrome (PC), Polished Nickel (PN), Pewter Antique (PTA), and Tuscan Bronze (TB).
