From Dark and Awkward to Bright and Functional: A Louisiana Kitchen Gets a Total Makeover

The power of thoughtful space planning is essential, especially when renovating an older home. Designer and Blogger, Arianne Bellizaire from Arianne Bellizaire Interiors, stripped-down an entire twenty-five-year-old kitchen in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to create a uniquely designed space from scratch. The once dark and dated kitchen became a bright, stylish and functional space through enhancements of products and planning.

Before

After

With an end goal of presenting a practical beautiful space for her clients, Arianne Bellizaire bases all of her design decisions on finding the right balance between functionality and creating a visually appealing space that makes guests want to take a second look. She creates homes specifically so homeowners can alter their style.

Sometimes with particular designs such as rustic or minimalism, homeowners can tend to feel stuck with one style.

“I never want you to be able to pinpoint one defined style of any of my spaces. Rather I want them to be a healthy mix of complementary styles that help to tell the homeowner’s story,” Says Bellizaire.

Before

After

Although the masterpiece came out as a stylish, functional space, Bellizaire faced some crossroads during the renovation. The extensive construction led to the removal of an 18x cypress beam that provided structural support to the home. She also removed the upper cabinets making the space feel larger. Bellizaire had to ensure the new design incorporated enough storage and included a walk-in pantry to the plan.

With the installation of all-new cabinetry, Bellizaire was on a mission to find the perfect hardware to compliment her design, leading her to Top Knobs.

“Top Knobs is our go-to hardware resource. We love how much variety there is in the product line and how much depth there is within each collection. The Kinney and Hollin combination was the perfect, sleek complement to this kitchen renovation” Bellizaire commented.

The transition between the before and after of the kitchen was so impactful because of the versatility of the new space. From dark and awkward, to bright and functional, the homeowners have new space can that can easily evolve with their changing styles.

Selecting a style of cabinet hardware

If you are replacing kitchen knobs and/or pull handles on existing cabinets, it is helpful to know what style type hardware you are shopping for. Kitchen cabinet hardware is divided into three broad style categories: Traditional, Contemporary, and Transitional.

Traditional

Aspen Collection

Aspen Collection

Often known as “Old World” these are classic designs, often inspired by historical architectural and design features. Traditional style is the most popular category of cabinet knobs and pulls, because most kitchen designs are traditional.

Traditional collections from Top Knobs include the Normandy, Tuscany, Edwardian, Aspen, Britannia, and Bronze (oil rubbed) collections.

Contemporary

Sanctuary

Sanctuary Collection

Contemporary designs feature sleek lines, sharp angles, minimalist features, and modern finishes such as brushed satin nickel, polished chrome, and stainless steel. The look of the kitchen is modern, sleek, and elegant.

The Contemporary collections available from Top Knobs are Sanctuary, Sanctuary II, Nouveau, Nouveau II, and Nouveau III.

Transitional

Somerset II Collection

Somerset II Collection

Transitional knobs and handle pulls are a blend of Traditional and Contemporary styles. These can be Traditional designs with Contemporary finishes, or Contemporary designs with Traditional finishes. The look can be quite striking.

Top Knobs Dakota, Asbury, Somerset I, and Somerset2 collections are considered Transitional looks.
